Jaguar XE 2017 Diesel launched at 38 Lakhs

The 2017 Jaguar XE diesel has been launched in India at prices starting at Rs. 38.25 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. The XE diesel will be available in three trim levels: Pure, Prestige and Portfolio.

Powering the XE is JLR’s 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel making 180hp and 430Nm of torque, as on the XF sedan and the F-Pace SUV. Compared to its German competition, the XE develops 10hp more than the entry-level Mercedes C 220d and 10hp lesser than the BMW 320d and the Audi A4 35 TDI. As with its petrol sibling, the diesel engine will be paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

As per the brochure, there are no differences in the equipment list between the petrol and diesel models. The XE is locally assembled at Jaguar’s plant in Pune.

The British carmaker started accepting bookings for the model earlier this month.

With the launch of this four-cylinder diesel model, Jaguar India has finally plugged a gaping hole in the sedan’s India line-up. Until now, the Jaguar XE, which was launched at the 2016 Auto Expo, was the only model in the line-up without the option of a diesel.

Jaguar XE diesel Engine specifications

Jaguar XE

The Jaguar XE diesel features a 2.0 litre four cylinder Ingenium engine that develops 180 horsepower and 430 Nm of maximum torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

2017 Jaguar XE diesel features

Features of the XE diesel include an 8-inch touchscreen for the InControl Touch infotainment system, Jaguar Drive Control, Torque Vectoring by Braking, All Surface Progress Control, 380 Watt Meridian sound system and a panoramic sunroof.

The XE diesel is produced at the Jaguar Land Rover Plant in Pune and will rival the Mercedes C220d, BMW 320d, Audi A4 diesel and the Volvo S60.

The sportiest model, the XE 35t, brings the familiar, 340-horse supercharged 3.0-liter V6 that makes such glorious noises in the F-Type coupe and convertible. All three engines drive the rear wheels through the excellent ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission; all-wheel drive is optional on the diesel-powered 20d and the top-range 35t.

And yes: As previously reported, a six-speed manual will be available. The same shift-for-yourself gearbox found in the F-Type will arrive in the XE a few months after the car hits the U.S. market. For now, Jaguar will only commit to offering the stick shift on the base-model, rear-drive 25t with the turbocharged, gasoline-powered four-cylinder XE.
